Many people are unsure how to act when they meet a Deaf or hard of hearing person. This is due to a lack of D/deaf awareness. If it is the first time meeting someone with a hearing impairment it can often lead to embarrassment and a feeling of awkwardness. This can sometimes lead to the D/deaf or hard of hearing student not having confidence that they wont be able to attain a proper education.
We offer short one day Deaf Awareness courses so your staff will have the confidence and knowledge when meeting D/deaf students.
By gaining knowledge such as statistics, Deaf culture and history, communication tactics, basic sign language your staff will feel far more able to interact with prospective students.
